Reclaiming the Role of Society Journals in Contemporary Science

With this issue, the Jornal da Sociedade das Ciências Médicas de Lisboa (JSCMed) continues to consolidate its renewed phase, while reflecting on the evolving responsibilities of scientific publishing in a changing research landscape. The editorial emphasizes the unique role of society journals in promoting academic integrity, community engagement, and equitable access to knowledge, particularly in a context increasingly shaped by metric-driven evaluation systems.

This edition highlights JSCMed’s commitment to Diamond Open Access, reinforcing science as a public good and supporting more responsible and inclusive models of research dissemination. Alongside these reflections, the issue presents original research, clinical and historical perspectives, and award-winning scientific contributions that illustrate the breadth of contemporary biomedical inquiry.

Founded in 1835, JSCMed reaffirms its mission to serve as a trusted platform for high-quality scientific communication, grounded in scholarly rigor, openness, and service to the medical and research community.
