António Gentil Martins

Abstract

António Gentil da Silva Martins was born in 1930 and graduated in medicine from the University of Lisbon. He started in Lisbon a medical-surgical pediatric unit for children, the first in the world. He operated on 7 pairs of conjoined twins, with 9 children surviving. He presided over the Ordem dos Médicos from 1977 to 1986. He is the heir to distinguished medical ancestry and remains an active participant in medical events in his nineties.
